We had a fun evening at Arstfest last night. I particularly like the short films we watched. First there was “Round” by Justin Edgar, a very sweet love story between a security guard and a cleaner in one of Birmingham’s tower blocks. Then we watched a painstakingly constructed animation by Babis Alexiadis who had individually photographed each frame stenciled onto a piece of paper and stuck to a public space or worn as a badge. These included park benches, lamp posts, buildings, mouths and chests. Both pieces were highly individual but very rooted in the city. Babis was kind enough to give the game away and show a ‘making of’ film which compressed months into seconds.
