We’ve just got back from Lille. It’s very easy to get to – just 1:40 from London Waterloo. Highlights included:

1. Finding vegetarian food for Katie. The French aren’t good at this, but we found that asking waiter’s elicits some pained facial expressions followed by a suggestion that the jambon can be removed. That should save us from always eating pizza in France in future.

2. The La Piscine art gallery in the nearby town, Roubaix. There are some good shots of this on Flikr. It was the first place I’ve ever seen art displayed in a shower cubicle. Also, the photos of the huge stained glass sun window don’t do it justice. At 5pm the whole space was lit by this amazing orange glow.
