Download this month’s podcast (20Mb). It contains all this good stuff…
Energy – Apples in In Stereo (from the new album New Magnetic Wonder)
I’ve been listening this album regularly since I bought it. It’s fantastic indiepop and I know I’ll be sick of it in a few months time, but for now, I love it.
Suffer For Fashion – Of Montreal (from the new album Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?)
I picked up on this from Pitchforkmedia, and it’s just the kind of thing which they love – quirky, well produced and dense. Another of my albums of the year.
River Euphrates – The Pixies (from the old album Surfer Rosa)
This is from the the Pixies first album (I think). They are figuring out their proto-grunge sound on this album which sounds rougher than, say, Doolittle, but this is a catchy tune.
Party Pit – The Hold Steady (from the new album Boys And Girls In America)
I think of this band as a cross between Counting Crows and Bruce Springsteen. This song has a serious Boss influence at the start then morphs into something more like AC/DC.
Hold On, Hold On – Neko Case (from the newish album Fox Confessor Brings the Flood)
This album one was popular in the Critic’s best-of lists last year. It’s generally too far on the Country end of Americana for me. This is my favourite song from the album.
Diamond Heart – Narissa Nadler (from somewhere, I know not where – use Google to find out)
I know nothing about this artist. I found the song on a magazine CD, and really like it.
The Ride – Joan As Police Woman (from the new album Real Life)
Katie’s song of the year so far. She sings with Antony and the Jonsons.
The Pioneers – Tuung
One of Tuung’s singles from I think last year. A good argument for small record labels.
After All – Mojave 3 (from Ask Me Tomorrow)
My friend Jane loves Mojave 3, so I thought I’d give them a try. Believe it or not, this is one of this is one of the more upbeat songs on the album.
