We were the only people looking around the Ikon Gallery this Friday afternoon. The main exhibition was of Carmen Herrera who is about 96 years old. Her most recent sketch on display was from 2006. I guess some people just never retire. I’d never heard of the Cuban artist, but her abstract style was familiar from contemporary Ellsworth Kelly. For me, I couldn’t stop my brain trying to interpret the shapes (sunsets, people, chairs, nunchaku), but Katie had no such problem, being able to just enjoy the shapes.
